Getting here is half an hour of very good road.
Eldoret is the nearest city and airport. From there it is a straightforward drive up onto the escarpment, and the last few minutes are the best part.
Four ways up the hill.
Eldoret
Eldoret International (EDL) has daily flights from Nairobi. Roughly 45 minutes by road from the airport to the lodge. We can arrange a transfer.
From Nairobi
About 6 to 7 hours via Nakuru and Eldoret. Tarmac the whole way, then a short signposted murram track at the end.
From Eldoret
35 to 45 minutes, climbing steadily. The turning for the lodge is just outside Iten town on the escarpment road.
We'll collect you
Airport and town pick-ups can be arranged with a day's notice. Tell us your flight when you book, or send a WhatsApp.
There is no bad month, only different ones.
At 2,000 metres the days are mild and the nights genuinely cool - bring a layer regardless of the season. January to March is dry, clear and best for flying. April to June brings the long rains, which turn everything green and empty the lodge out pleasantly.
July and August are cool, dry and busy. September onwards clears again, and December is the greenest and most sociable stretch of the year.
Month by month
The practical bits.
At 2,000 m most people notice it only on the first climb of stairs. Runners should plan an easy few days before doing anything ambitious. Drink more water than feels necessary.
Mains power with backup, UK-style three-pin sockets at 240V. WIFI covers the rooms and the public areas - good enough for calls, not for uploading a feature film.
M-Pesa, card or cash in Kenyan shillings. There is an ATM in Iten town, but bring some cash for market days and guides.
A warm layer for evenings, sun protection for the middle of the day, and shoes you do not mind turning red. Everything else is available in Iten or Eldoret.
Very. The family cottages sleep five, the kitchen is flexible, and there is plenty of space to run around. The escarpment edge is fenced but worth a word of warning to small explorers.
